Meet the Designer: Angie Hambach

Angie and Her Daughters
Angie Hambach grew up in the home design business. Her late father opened a flooring store when she was four years old. Angie spent her after-school hours at the store and started working there with her dad when she was 18. In 2003, she grew the family business into a full-scale home design center. Angie taught herself CAD design — a skill that’s essential in home remodeling — and channeled her love of interior design into what has become a 20+ year design career.
The best part of her job? Making people happy. It’s something she gets from her dad. It’s also what motivates her to keep her finger on the pulse of home design trends, new materials and industry best practices.
Her advice to homeowners before they start a remodeling project? Do your research and visualize your space. It’s essential to be able to articulate what you want — and also what you don’t. As a designer, understanding the elements that homeowners don’t like is important to arrive at a design, and ultimately, a finished project that suits their personal style.
Her favorite home remodeling project? While it’s difficult to choose a favorite, Angie is always up for a challenge. One recent remodeling project delivered.
Cleveland Colonial Kitchen and Bath Transformed
The home was a classic 1930 Cleveland Colonial. Unfortunately, leaking pipes upstairs had caused water damage which went undetected for more than two years. The resulting rot in the walls created unsafe living conditions for the homeowner and her children. What’s worse, the homeowner could not get a contractor to agree to take on the project—until she met Angie.
Before the renovation, the kitchen was dark, dated and had no functioning electricity due to the extensive damage to the walls. So the first step to reimagine the kitchen space was to start with a clean slate. Angie and her team from Dover demoed the area, taking the kitchen down to the studs. The new layout worked within the existing kitchen footprint and maintained the original hardwood floors. The first step to building it back started with all new wiring and plumbing.
From there, Angie worked with the homeowner to choose elements to create a lighter, brighter, cleaner space. They used semi-custom cabinets from Waypoint Cabinetry in white with sleek Corian Quartz countertops in a graphite color for a bold contrast. For the backsplash, American Olean Bright White tile provides a brilliant visual effect.
The homeowner’s one request: a beverage refrigerator for the kids. Angie’s layout included the mini-fridge and all new major appliances.
She also added a pantry cabinet with loads of extra storage and convenient pull-outs.
For Angie, creating an all-new kitchen for the young family — to build a beautiful, healthy new space where they can gather and make memories — was a true labor of love.
The bathroom remodel is a stunner too. The plumbing problems were repaired and now the new bathroom is functional AND beautiful.
The tub and shower surround includes decorative tile accents for visual interest and a unique touch.
Her design mantra, “Anything is Possible,” was showcased in this project in the most wonderful and fulfilling way. To Angie, home remodeling projects like these are the reason why she enjoys her job.
