Adding square footage without building an addition, this renovation gives the homeowner the kitchen of her dreams, along with a spacious laundry room and a bonus powder room.
For this remodeling project, Dover Home Remodelers earned 2nd Place honors in the prestigious NARI Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards 2018, Residential Interior ($100,001 – $250,000).
The homeowner called Dover to put an addition on her 1963 split level home. Her design vision: Relocate the laundry room and expand the kitchen. Rather than add on, we re-purposed an underused garage bay to create a full-size laundry room, mudroom and half bath to complement the new spacious kitchen with fabulous function and flow.
The old kitchen had seen better days and was very outdated with laminate cabinets and counters. We started the kitchen by removing floors, ceilings and soffits, and leveling the floors.

The new kitchen features a nine-foot island and a view of the lake in the front yard—no addition required.
The old kitchen island was small and non-functional. The new island anchors the space and provides an ample prep area and loads of storage.

Where there was an existing half wall between the kitchen and family room, a vent-free, see-through fireplace unit is installed, creating unity between the spaces.
