Several times a year we highlight a job from start to finish, giving you a first hand view of the whole process including the challenges and solutions involved in renovating the space. Below is a brief walkthrough of our most current featured project.
The centerpiece of this fabulous basement renovation is a wine cellar with rich custom cabinetry, wine refrigerators and a tasting table.
Opening the staircase, adding rustic doors, stone walls and dramatic lighting complete the refined entertainment space, which also includes a spacious family room area, home gym and updated bathroom.
The project earned Dover Home Remodelers 1st place honors in the prestigious NARI Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards 2019 for Basement Renovation (over $50,000).
After 14 years in their home, this family of six had outgrown their finished basement. Their wish list included a wine tasting area to explore the wine they had collected throughout their travels; comfortable seating to enjoy television and games; and space for a pool table and home gym.
To establish integrity, structural members were installed to re-support the first floor.
A custom wood rail with iron balusters, a distressed wood column and cultured stone enhance the updated stairwell area. Custom cabinetry with a microwave drawer and wine storage below the existing stairs add new dimension and function.
Cabinets are removed, floors leveled, and a knee-wall is built to define the space.
It was the homeowners’ travels that inspired this basement transformation—their vision was to replicate the rich, warm and inviting atmosphere of a European wine cellar. The sophisticated transformation features a custom tasting table with seating for eight.
A live-edge shelf, leathered granite surfaces, porcelain tile, cultured stone and a custom wet bar with floating shelves for stemware elevate the style factor.
The sophisticated space now suits the family’s current lifestyle.
A custom vanity is the focal point of the remodeled bathroom. A knee wall was added and the brick floor was extended into the space.
Barn doors with rustic iron hardware lead to mechanical room, replacing the original builders’-grade, raised-panel door.
The exercise room is now defined by a knee wall with mirrored walls, custom column trim and a custom wood closet door.
