The homeowner’s door from the garage opened into the stairwell leading to the basement—a hazard for a family with three young children and a large dog.
The new design closed the door opening and moved the laundry/mud room and bathroom, thus creating a hall leading to the new den. The den, while small due to yard space restrictions, had French doors to give an air of lightness to an otherwise dark hall. Custom poplar lockers were designed giving each child his/her own bench seat that opens on a piano hinge for storage. The kitchen remodel included new cherry cabinets, Kichler lighting, granite surfaces, Electrolux appliances, and a beautiful tiled backsplash accented in diamond-shaped crackled glass.
