Updated Spaces and New Rooms for Family Living

This blended family wanted to create more living space within their home and revamp the cramped, dated kitchen to include a larger island with better circulation and added function. The renovation included a new designer kitchen with semi-custom cabinetry, a sleek beverage/bar area, an expansive two-tiered island and professional-grade appliances.

By removing a two-story wall that closed the kitchen off from the front entryway, the room gained an open, airy feel. Iron balusters on the stairway and newly installed balcony above gave the space a modern edge.

The project also included a new mudroom with cubbies; a larger laundry room; and the addition of a fourth bedroom upstairs by redesigning the two-story family room to create a single-story space below, and then building a deck to support a new balcony and new bedroom above—a move that required extensive structural engineering, yet created a stunning effect, along with the cozy living area the family desired.
