Transforming a family basement into a stylish, sophisticated entertainment space
Picking up where we left off last week, for reference, here is another look at the wine tasting area in the new finished basement.
When it comes to home design and renovation, the difference is in the details. These homeowners chose a beautiful blend of rich textures and finishes to create an inviting, sophisticated vibe. All cabinetry is custom wormy maple (4B Wood) with hardware by Jeffrey Alexander.
A custom, live-edge shelf (Brian’s Furniture), leathered Belvedere granite (US Marble), porcelain tile (Mediterrania), Dutch Quality cultured stone, and a wet bar (faucet: Delta Brizo) with floating shelves for stemware elevate the style factor.
Barn doors with rustic iron hardware (Emtek) lead to mechanical room, replacing the original builders’-grade door.
The new basement provides a host of options for entertaining and family gathering, while maintaining a cohesive design flow from space to space. (Custom pool table by Danny Vegh)

The Bathroom
A custom vanity is the focal point of the remodeled bathroom; we also added a knee wall and carried the brick floor into the space to create visual harmony throughout.
Before:
Exercise room
The home gym area is now defined by a knee wall with mirrored walls, custom column trim and a custom wood closet door that echoes the style of the adjacent areas.

This basement renovation project was a delight. I thoroughly enjoyed working with these homeowners again—and this project was extra special because it captured the evolution of this wonderful family through the years. Winning the CotY award was icing on the cake. If you’re interested in learning more, connect with me at sbujdos@doverremodeling.com.
