Transforming a basic kitchen: A sleek new design aesthetic leads the charge with luxe surfaces, custom storage solutions, thoughtful appointments and undeniable panache.
Dover created a refreshed, more functional kitchen while working within the existing footprint, embracing the homeowner’s bohemian design style. The result is an artfully crafted space that effortlessly flows with the rest of the beautifully curated home.
The Kitchen: Before
The homeowners loved their home, which they had carefully styled over the years with artwork and meaningful mementos that told their family story. But, with their grown children living on their own, it was time to turn their attention to the one room that didn’t fit with the rest of their well-curated home: the kitchen. So, in need of a refresh, they turned to Dover for a complete kitchen makeover.
The Kitchen: After
While the original kitchen was large enough, the builders’ grade cabinets left pockets of dead space difficult to access. Designed using custom cabinetry, the new kitchen layout maximizes space by eliminating the pantry closet and stretching cabinets up to the 9-ft. ceiling. Additionally, pantry and below-counter cabinets and drawers feature custom storage solutions like roll outs, dividers and charging stations for improved functionality. The updated peninsula includes a hidden storage area for grilling tools and an overhang for seating.
The custom cabinetry was stained to mimic the undertones in the existing hardwood floor, which runs throughout the first floor. The updated wine bar area features a custom tile backsplash (tile is Stellar by Sonoma Tile Makers in a combination of Cloud Dancer, Charcoal Crackle and Dovetail Crackle) that adds a pop of color and texture and a design element that complements artwork in the adjacent rooms in the home.
Countertop surfaces in Brown Antique granite in a honed (leather) finish provide texture and a sleek finish in the space. A tumbled terracotta tile (Wow – Mestizaje White in Zellige Gloss) glazed in various white tones and grey grout complements the cabinets and tile floors for the backsplash.
