Meet the Designer: Beth Orr
In this special blog series, meet Dover Home Remodelers’ talented designers: Enjoy a glimpse at their work, inspirations, and beautiful before-and-after home remodeling project highlights.
For Beth Orr, home remodeling is more than a job. It’s her passion.
Beth grew up at Dover Home Remodelers, spending time with and learning about home remodeling from her parents, who started the family business in 1984. Beth worked at Dover during high school. After college, she moved to Columbus, and in 2007, the family decided to open a second Dover location there.
But the timing wasn’t right. Establishing a home remodeling business in a new market during the recession was rough. So, Beth transitioned into a sales position with Pella, where she sold windows and doors. That move turned out to be instrumental in her career growth. The job experience at Pella gave Beth valuable insight into the home remodeling industry from a different vantage point.
Working for a large corporation also exposed Beth to different management styles and operational systems. It’s an experience she finds quite useful in her current position as Dover’s Vice President — an ever-changing role.
Coming Home
Beth moved back to Cleveland in November 2012, joining the team at Dover as a designer. While she’s racked up awards over the years for her fabulous home remodeling designs, Beth is equally as proud of the humble, smaller-scale home remodeling projects that she’s also managed for clients. And that’s because she delights in the details — and in making a difference.
For Beth, among the most fulfilling aspects of her role as a designer is helping her clients realize happier, healthier, more livable spaces in their homes. Sometimes she works with customers who want to upgrade their homes; other times she helps customers who need to remodel their space to make it safer for their families. It’s that variety—getting to manage projects on both ends of the spectrum— that Beth enjoys about her job.
It’s All About Family
While Beth appreciates having a job that she loves, she’s even more grateful that she works beside her parents every day. Not many people get the opportunity to develop and enjoy an adult relationship with their mom and dad the way Beth does: It’s a job perk that’s not lost on her.
Beth is quick to point to her dad as her mentor and inspiration. Her dad treats everyone with respect and would never ask anyone to do something that he wouldn’t do himself. These are lessons that Beth carries with her.
The Next Chapter
Taking over as Vice President in 2017, Beth wears many hats at Dover, juggling a host of responsibilities – from sales management to marketing to design. Dover Home Remodelers continues to grow, with steady sales and an expanding workforce to meet demand.
Beyond the solid bottom line, a testament to Beth’s work are the many repeat customers who continue to come back to her for home remodeling work again and again. We’re just glad she’s on our team. And our customers are, too.
