BLOG #2 of 4 IN A SERIES
Our team at Dover was thrilled to be honored by NARI with a Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award for a kitchen renovation completed for our customer in Strongsville. Enjoy this guest blog series by designer Chika Aizu that takes you on a project walkthrough, with details about our design…
Picking up where I left off in my last post…
DURING
Going into the project, we knew the wall between the kitchen and dining room, and the kitchen soffits, housed lots of mechanicals and rerouting would be necessary. We took on the task when we stripped the walls and ceiling, and figured out how best to rework them to fit our new design. This required strategic rerouting as the remaining walls already housed mechanicals connected upstairs. Working with our structural engineer and all the mechanical trades, we managed it all while keeping structural and mechanical integrity intact.
A flu chase in the existing pantry closet was removed and we installed a new power vented hot water heater in the basement.
BEFORE & AFTER
The following series of photos shows the evolution of the open-concept design:
To create the seamless living space, the post and header were removed between the kitchen and family room.
The dining room wall was also removed, making functional use of the entire space.
In my next post, I’ll detail the homeowners’ product, fixture and design selections that work together to create this beautiful new kitchen.
All the best,
Chika Aizu
