When it comes to home remodeling, tile reigns supreme as a versatile and visually striking material that can elevate an entire room. From classic subway tiles to bold mosaics, tile installations can transform a ho-hum space into a work of art.
This year, we’ve created exceptional tile installations for some of our home remodeling projects in Northeast Ohio. These tile projects showcase the latest trends—colors, materials, textures—along with the innovative techniques and boundless creativity of our clients and designers.
This blog highlights some tile projects designed by our team at Dover Home Remodeling that show how you can use tile to create a unique look in your home. Enjoy browsing these tile trends from our designers.
Zellige Artisan Tile
This year, Zellige artisan tile continued to captivate homeowners with its unique, handcrafted charm. This Moroccan-inspired tile has a distinctive, imperfect glaze and warm, earthy hues that add Bohemian tone and texture to the home. Zellige tiles can be used in various applications, from backsplashes and shower walls to feature walls and floors.
Zellige tile is thicker than ceramic tile. Because it’s handmade, the imperfections that make it unique also make the installation more labor-intensive to level out the grout line, which adds cost to the job. You can also choose porcelain or ceramic tile that replicates the more expensive artisan Zellige clay tiles to get the same look but with less cost. We have played with setting these tiles in different patterns, from herringbone to stacked with minimal grout for a contemporary finish (see the above photo).
Luxury Vinyl Plank
At the Dover Floor & Tile Center, we carry a lot of luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring that looks like wood. We also carry luxury vinyl products that look like tile, which were popular this year.
People like LVP because it is easy to install (reducing costs), has a realistic look when installed with grout, is durable and can be used in wet zones. It is also warmer underfoot than tile, making it especially ideal for a bathroom installation.
Marble-look Porcelain or Ceramic Tile
If you love the look of marble but not the high-maintenance requirements, consider marble-look porcelain or ceramic tile. These tiles offer the elegance and sophistication of marble without the need for constant sealing and polishing. These tiles are durable, stain-resistant and easy to clean, perfect for busy households and high-traffic areas. This year, it’s been a popular choice for bathroom installations, creating a luxe, elevated feel at a modest price point.
Subway Tile
Again in 2024, subway tile makes the list. Subway tile is a classic choice for backsplashes, showers and walls, and its clean lines and versatile style make it popular in traditional and modern homes.
Available in various colors, materials, and finishes, subway tile is a chameleon, adapting to almost any home style. Whether you prefer a minimalist aesthetic or a bold statement, subway tile is a timeless option that will never go out of style.
Dover’s recent TV commercial featured this subway tile installation in progress (see image at right).
Patterned Tile
Patterned tile is a great way to add personality and visual interest to your home; we’ve seen much of it in 2024. From geometric patterns to floral motifs, patterned tile can create various looks, from a bold statement to a subtle accent. This year, we used patterned tile most often on backsplashes and floors. Aging In Place
This year, we worked with many clients looking for bathroom remodels that support aging in place. Zero-entry showers, multi-function showerheads with handheld options, integrated shower seating and grab bars were among the most popular features in these bathrooms.
Specialty Tile
Our team at Dover specializes in custom tile installations. This year, a standout project was for a client remodeling and reconfiguring her kitchen.
She wanted the special tile she bought on her honeymoon incorporated into the backslash. We chose a subtle backdrop of subway tile and pencil liner to make her tiles stand out. This photo shows the project in progress.
