Our team at Dover was thrilled to be honored by NARI with a Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award for a kitchen renovation completed for our customer in Strongsville. For the next three weeks, I’m turning over my blog to designer Chika Aizu who managed this award-winning project for Dover. I hope you’ll enjoy this blog series, as Chika takes you on a project walkthrough, with details about design challenges and solutions—and photos that bring this bright, beautiful family kitchen to life.
This kitchen renovation and a new open-concept floorplan was the main focus of the homeowner’s whole-house remodel. They looked to Dover to give their traditional home a major style upgrade. We did just that by first redesigning the dim, cramped kitchen and disjointed layout and then transforming the entire area into a modern, free-flowing living space that better suits their active family.
When we initially met to discuss the project, the homeowners were set on including an island in their new kitchen. But as we sketched out design concepts, the new, expansive kitchen rather called for use of peninsulas in order to maximize space and functionality.
In the end, it all came together beautifully. We designed a peninsula which extended the line of the octagon breakfast nook off of the sink wall. The bar peninsula received the angled line flanking a 6’ opening, creating the visual definition of the kitchen space. Our designers used 3D renderings to help our customers visualize this approach.
Be sure to check out our second blog in this three part series next week where I’ll continue with more on the layout and design.
All The Best,
Chika Aizu
