When it comes to home remodeling projects the common denominator that I find no matter the size or scope of the work: Homeowners want to start right away. And that’s only natural—once you’ve committed to the project, you’re excited to get the ball rolling.
From our vantage point as the contractor, there are a few things that homeowners can do to ensure a quick start and seamless job flow. At Dover, we provide a checklist that helps our customers not only prepare for construction in their home, but gives them a list of their responsibilities. A few of the essentials:
1. Choose paint color (this is the one many homeowners find most challenging!)
2. Select light fixtures
3. Pick accessories (towel bars, cabinet hardware, etc.)
Our designers are always available to consult with and assist customers in making these choices, but at the end of the day, it’s the homeowners’ call. Making these selections early on jump starts the process.
In terms of physical preparation, it’s beneficial for homeowners to
not only move furniture, but to also clear the adjoining walls and a pathway to the area where crews will be working for added protection.

As with most anything, a little preparation goes a long way toward reaching your desired goal.
