Creating functional space
Picking up where I left off in the last post…
The other major challenge in this kitchen was that the existing cabinets lacked functionality. Blind corner cabinets were difficult to reach so they barely used them.
The solution: We designed custom cabinetry to house every organizational amenity they dreamed of: Easy to reach corner cabinets, pot and pan roll-outs, double waste baskets, utensil storage and a bread drawer to name a few.
In the original kitchen, cabinets to the right of the refrigerator were hidden and the microwave sat on the counter to the left. Their new oversized refrigerator (which they affectionately named “the aircraft carrier”) stuck out from the cabinets making it look even larger. The proportions were all off.

In the new design, cabinets surrounding the “aircraft carrier” now create the look of a built-in refrigerator. Custom stemware storage, a Sub-Zero® wine fridge and space-maximizing pantry roll-outs complete this incredible wall of built-ins for a uniquely high-end look and feel.
The existing shallow pantry closet was inadequate: Two wastebaskets sat out next to the sliding door because there was no room to tuck them away. And the homeowners desperately needed a drop area: No matter how they tried to keep the kitchen organized, there was always clutter.
Responding to that challenge, the new custom cabinets provide a place for everything, with loads of smart built-in storage solutions, that keep counters clean and clear.
