Home design trends are always evolving, but some changes stand out because they reflect how people are actually living in their homes. We asked our Dover Home Remodelers design team to share the updates they most often see in client projects across Northeast Ohio. From primary bathrooms and kitchens to whole-house remodels, here are the top design trends shaping homes as we approach the end of 2025.
Primary Bathroom Trends
Bigger Showers, Fewer Tubs
Large garden and jetted tubs are being replaced by spacious, tiled showers with modern custom glass enclosures. Many homeowners are opting for full slab shower walls made of quartz, cultured marble or large-format tile to achieve a seamless, spa-like look.
Warm Tones Over Cool Grays
While gray and white have dominated for years, today’s bathrooms are shifting towards warmer hues. Think natural stains, creamy neutrals and earthy shades for cabinetry, countertops, flooring and tile.
Tile With Personality
Subway tile remains popular, but with a twist—new sizes, finishes and colors are trending. Straight-stacked layouts give a modern look, while herringbone and offset patterns remain timeless favorites.
Statement Plumbing Finishes
Brushed nickel remains a popular choice, but more homeowners are embracing brushed gold, champagne bronze and matte black. Mixing finishes across plumbing, lighting, mirrors and hardware is especially trendy for a curated, designer look.
Kitchen Trends
Cabinetry: Classic With an Organic Twist
Custom cabinetry in warm whites and light natural stains—often mimicking white oak—are leading the way. In general, more organic textures and materials are popular. Homeowners are opting for stained cabinets instead of painted ones, as they appreciate the natural character of the wood and the warmth of the stained finish.
Shaker doors continue as the most universal style but inset cabinetry and stained wood in natural finishes are gaining ground over all-white kitchens.
Countertops and Backsplashes: Seamless Slabs
Quartz and quartzite dominate kitchens in NE Ohio. Many homeowners are extending the countertop material up the wall for a clean, sophisticated backsplash. Additionally, people are moving away from stones that have a lot of negative space and bold, minimal veining. Rather, we see people gravitate toward stones that have more natural variation with mixtures of colors, tones and patterns in their movement.
Islands: The Bigger, The better
Kitchen islands continue to be the centerpiece of the space, with families requesting oversized islands for seating, gathering and prep.
Organization and Functionality
Homeowners want organizational cabinet inserts that help them maximize their cabinet space and keep items off their countertops. Whether in the kitchen or the bathroom, people want their space to function better for them while also looking beautiful.
Focal-point Range Hoods and Hidden Appliances
Custom range hoods serve as a key design feature, while microwaves are increasingly concealed within base cabinets for a sleek appearance.
Accent Walls and Light-filled Spaces
From wallpaper and millwork to bold paint colors, accent walls are everywhere. But unlike the “color-drenching” trend seen online, most homeowners here are opting for light, airy palettes that feel fresh and timeless.
Whole-Home Trends
Flooring: Lighter, Wider Planks
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and engineered hardwood flooring in light, wide-plank styles are popular throughout the home, blending durability with a modern aesthetic.
Tile: Stacked and Textural
Stacked vertical or horizontal tile patterns are replacing classic subway installs, while handmade, textured or mixed finishes are adding depth and interest.
Technology and Energy Efficiency
Homeowners are investing in long-term comfort and cost savings:
- Tankless/wall-mounted water heaters
- Smart thermostats
- Energy-efficient LED lighting
- Induction cooktops
Outdoor Living All Year Long
Northeast Ohio homeowners want outdoor spaces they can enjoy in every season. We’re seeing more porches and sunrooms transformed into four-season rooms with HVAC or mini-split systems, along with decks outfitted with outdoor kitchens and grilling stations.
Bringing It All Together
From warm, natural finishes to integrated technology and year-round livability, these design trends reflect how homeowners are personalizing their spaces to be both beautiful and practical. At Dover Home Remodelers, our design team helps clients translate these ideas into homes that feel timeless, tailored and uniquely their own.
The best is yet to come,
