This Tudor was completely transformed: The remodeled, functional living space includes a gourmet kitchen, new family room, dining room, mudroom and bathroom.

For this remodeling project, Dover Home Remodelers earned First Place honors in the prestigious NARI Contractor of the Year (CoTY) Awards for Residential Addition.

From disjoined space to stylish, open-concept living

This classic brick Tudor had loads of character, but its choppy, cramped layout begged for a redesign. The renovation eliminates the screened porch, turning the space into an open kitchen/family room that flows effortlessly with the home’s original living space.

Exterior renovation/demolition

Second floor windows dictate the roof design. The kitchen’s exterior wall is removed and the opening is reinforced with a flush steel I-beam. A 115-square-foot addition to the kitchen ties into the new family room to create the open-concept living space.

As part of the project, the porch roof and walls are removed; the foundation is left in place. New walls are built and a 2′ x 15′ cantilever is added to increase the square footage for the family room window wall, which features a fireplace and custom built-ins.

The Kitchen: Before

From Kitchen to Dining Room: Before & After

Narrow doorways segmented the existing space. By expanding the opening from the kitchen into the adjoining dining room, a seamless effect is achieved with beautifully restored hardwood flooring throughout.
