The Entry, Kitchen and Great Room: Before

The home’s existing foyer was far from inviting: The open, two-story area offered a clear view into adjoining rooms and beyond, where the absence of a design aesthetic created a choppy, fragmented feel.

As you move into the house, the home’s biggest renovation challenge was the kitchen: The layout was awkward with all appliances clustered on one end of the room and two hallways jutting off to the side—one with a butler’s pantry, the other with a laundry room and half bath.

Working within the existing footprint, we created a design that closed off doorways and opened up walls, giving the homeowners a large, open-concept kitchen that would flow effortlessly into the adjoining great room.

Upstairs, the cramped master bathroom was also in major need of a redesign. Plans for the updated master retreat included his-and-hers closet renovations as well as adding space to the bathroom from one of the old closets.

The Entry, Kitchen and Great Room: After

Starting in the entry, we installed Brazilian teakwood flooring throughout the first floor to create harmony and flow from room to room. We also revamped the curved staircase with wrought iron balusters and installed a stunning custom light fixture that sets the modern tone for the fresh new living space.

The new kitchen featured a complementary mix of painted and stained custom cabinetry with honed granite countertops; a custom tile backsplash; and high-end Sub-Zero^® and Wolf^® appliances.

The central island provided plenty of prep and workspace, along with seating and beautiful display cabinetry with feature lighting.

The two-sided, two-story fireplace was resurfaced with cultured stone and a custom mantle on the kitchen-facing facade.

Master Bathroom: After

To create a true master retreat, space from one of the master closets was added to the bath and the his-and-hers closets were reconfigured with custom appointments. For additional storage, we added a second large closet in the adjacent bonus room.

Now with a larger bathroom footprint, we eliminated the small stall shower and created a grand shower “room” with a wet and dry area—a space so large it doesn’t require a door. The shower features multiple shower heads and gorgeous custom tile work; a glass arch on the backside overlooks the soaking tub.

A Cohesive Living Space

In the end, every inch of the home was renovated: A second fireplace in the hearth room was also resurfaced with cultured stone; in the den, new built-in custom cabinetry is as beautiful as it is functional; the half bathrooms were all updated; and we installed new carpet and paint throughout for a clean, sleek look that pulls the whole-house renovation together, with stunning effect.
